Busspepper: The Caribbean Airlines Summer Sizzle Review – 7th July

Vibes, vibes, vibes!

Today we had a taste of summer.

No there wasn’t any sunshine but we had more than enough of the other elements to make up for that.

The Summer Sizzle was a brand new concept to the soca scene brought to us by Busspepper in-conjunction with Caribbean Airlines. This union ensured that some lucky ‘fetter’ who attend the event went home with a FREE flight to a Caribbean destination.

The Summer sizzle set-up had a distinct ‘back-home’ feeling to it. A BBQ in the reception area with the bars inside. It worked perfectly.

The Venue: Agenda (Courtyard), London. There was something very pleasing about walking up to the venue in the financial district of Central London and hearing the sounds of sweet soca filling the entire street. The usually overlooked courtyard was this time used to its full capacity. Limer’s occupied the area which was covered by a glass shelter. This maintained dry conditions regardless of what was falling from the sky.

The Crowd: What a beautiful turnout. Ethnically diverse, and unified in their love of soca. Many made an effort to comply with the summer dress code despite the rain. The courtyard was packed, so too were the two rooms inside.

The Vibe: At first the vibe was social, as you would expect from such an occasion. The music really dictated what happened, and when. The DJ’s were originally outside catering for those eating, but as the night went on, they moved inside to up the pace. The best in soca from all ages was heard throughout the night.

All-in-all: It would be safe to say that this event was enjoyed by all. It served as a chance to interact in a way you may not be able to do in a fete. I am certainly hoping something like this will soon come round again.
