Soca Frenzy: Blackout Fete Review – 9th November
Turn the lights off!
Soca Frenzy, the most successful monthly soca fete in London gave us the Blackout edition featuring live performances by Scrappy & Lavaman. This night was also the official Montserrat Carnival send off fete.
It seems this fete bucked the trend and had fetters arriving earlier (or maybe we got there a bit later than usual). On entering, the first room was full of activity and surprisingly the main arena was too. Not to mention the long queue of people trickling in.
Things started off nice.

The Vibe: The usual high standards of wotlessness were definitely maintained at the Blackout Fete. Whether you were at the front, on stage, up in the stands, VIP or in the first room you couldn’t escape the madness.
The Music: If you have been to Frenzy before then you know what you’re getting; soca old and new with the occasional hit from other genres. DJ Tate, Tyrone, Bones & many others kept the soca flame burning all night.
The Show: Scrappy opened up with a collage of his hits, shining bright as the rest of the arena was in complete darkness. Lavaman did what Lavaman does and took things to a whole new level of hype with his collection of tracks.
The Crowd: MAD! The Grenadians where out in full force to support Lavaman. However the other islands also turned out to support soca on a whole.
All-in-all: Frenzy goes from strength to might strength. A great night with the right mix of music and artistes.
