Barely more than a week after hosting the 3rd Annual Soca Music Awards, UK’s Caribbean media house- Soca News has announced that it is putting its brand and associated businesses up for sale.
The unexpected news was announced late on Sunday the 4th of November on the official brand’s Facebook personal and Twitter page and according to the message broadcast up for sale is:
Domain names: www.socanews.com and www.carnivalgrooves.com.
Publications: Soca News Magazine, Carnival Grooves Magazine
Other: UK Soca Monarch, Soca Music Awards, Soca Idol
Soca News is a UK publication available in print and online and has been around the Caribbean scene for approximately two decades and specialises in spreading Caribbean music, carnivals, news, culture and lifestyle. Along its success the publication has birthed the well-known annual Soca Music Awards, an award ceremony aimed at recognising the hard work and contribution of the UK Caribbean soca scene and the rest of the Caribbean islands and the UK Soca Monarch held around Notting Hill Carnival season in London.
The latest stats acquired from Alexa.com show the site, Socanews.com ranked #3,330,065 in the world, and has been online for more than fifteen years. It currently has a healthy following of 1,851 twitter followers and close to 600 fans on Facebook. At time of publication, the value of the brand and business entity is currently unknown. According to the website it has a current circulation of 10,000 copies and an estimated readership of around 30,000 and offers its advertisers direct access to an audience with interests in events and current issues within the Caribbean community.
What has caused the sale of the whole brand entity is unknown; however at a time that the Diaspora is questioning the future of the UK soca scene, the loss will be felt by the Soca scene at large.
